Learning Across Borders: European Perspectives on Education

This podcast was created by Erasmus students participating in the course Methods of Interaction at the University College of Teacher Education Styria (PH Steiermark) in Graz, Austria.

Bringing together future teachers from across Europe, the course provides a space for dialogue, reflection, and the exchange of educational perspectives. Throughout their stay at PH Steiermark, the students explored key topics in contemporary education while gaining first-hand insights into Austrian schools and classrooms.

In this episode, students from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom discuss a range of educational issues, including student–teacher relationships, digitalisation, inclusion, school-day structures, multilingualism, migration, and language learning. Drawing on experiences from their home countries as well as their school placements in Austria, they compare educational systems, share personal reflections, and examine common challenges faced by teachers across Europe.

The podcast was produced within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme at PH Steiermark and reflects the university’s strong commitment to internationalisation, intercultural learning, multilingualism, and inclusive education. The course was academically supported by Professor Magdalena Dorner-Pau, whose work focuses on German as a second language, multilingualism, linguistic education, and diversity in educational contexts.

The conversations highlight how international exchange enriches teacher education and demonstrates the importance of learning from different perspectives. By engaging with diverse educational traditions and experiences, the participants develop the intercultural competencies, openness, and reflective skills that are essential for teaching in increasingly diverse classrooms.

This podcast is an invitation to explore education beyond national borders and to discover what future teachers can learn from one another in a shared European learning community.
